Panty Style Guide

     Bikinis
A moderate coverage silhouette offering more coverage than a thong, but not as much as a brief. Bikinis have waistbands which usually rest somewhere between the navel and hip (unless Low Rise) and have semi-hi-cut legs and a moderate coverage back panel. The sides can be anything from a string to a thicker side panel.  String bikinis offer considerably less coverage than an average bikini. Bikinis are a super comfortable medium coverage silhouette that won’t show thru under heavier fabrics like denim or wool.

Boy shorts / Culottes
Boyshorts (or Culottes, as commonly used in Europe) are all the rage as it offers full coverage all the way down the hips while not sacrificing its sexiness and modernity with the myriad of designs and fabrics available. It comes in low rise as well.  By namesake, it is a panty that closely resembles men’s short and is sometimes called hot pants, boys’ cut, booty shorts, shorties or even boyleg briefs or even culottes.  For those who want something with a little more coverage than a thong or g-string while still avoiding those visible panty lines, boyshorts are the next best thing.

French Knickers
Are loose fitting undergarments that are usually made from silk or other luxurious materials. They are shorts or hot pant shaped but very loose fiiting and whilst they can be worn as everyday briefs they are often worn and nightwear or lounge wear in conjunction with a matching camisole.
Tanga / Brazilian-cut Panties – It is between a bikini and a thong with a narrower back coverage than a traditional panty but not as narrow as compared to a thong.  It sits low on the waist with cut-ins at the back showing an leg openings _ to _ down the derriere.

  G-String
This is a panty that offers minimal coverage and is designed with string sides and back panel, while some are designed with only a T-string on the back.  Similar to a thong, some manufacturers use the terms interchangeably, but in general G-strings offer ultra minimal coverage. These tiny panties are virtually guaranteed to eliminate panty lines.

  Hipster
This panty gives a moderate coverage and is slightly low rise so the waistline of the hipster is well below the navel., it is low in both the front and back., and provides a good support for the buttock. It has a modern and comfortable take in comparison to the classic brief and are less bulky than that of a boyshort. It is designed to wear under low-rise jeans and trousers.

Low Rise
A panty with a rise of 7-inches or less.  The rise of a panty is the measurement between the waistband and the first horizontal seam.  The average brief or panty has a rise of 9-inches, whereas in a Low Rise panty, the rise measurement is 7” or less.  Broadly, Low Rise panties are categorized into three main types:_

Fairly Low: 6 - 7 inches
Very Low – 5 to 6.5 inches
Daringly Low – 4.5 inches or lower

The Brief
This is full coverage panty that sits below the waist with leg openings that expose the outer upper thigh.  For a modern take on a classic silhouette, a good choice would be one of seamless design and fabric that gives it a smoother line with worn under clothes; and it is cut very high on leg to show more leg giving the legs an elongated visual effect.

Tanga / Brazilian-cut Panties
It is between a bikini and a thong with a narrower back coverage than a traditional panty but not as narrow as compared to a thong.  It sits low on the waist with cut-ins at the back showing an leg openings _ to _ down the derriere.

Thong
A minimal coverage panty silhouette with a triangle shaped front panel, thin side panels and a narrow back panel, which may be y-shaped, or t shaped.  They usually ride high on the hips. The minimal coverage on the buttocks makes these knickers good underwear to avoid VPL under tight fitting clothes.
